Game Bucket

Game Bucket [Institute of Play]: Prototype 1

Overview
Game Bucket is an online interactive tool for teachers interested in integrating games of all kinds into their teaching practice—digital and non-digital. Game Bucket aligns a library of games that have been playtested and mapped to New York State standards by playForce, a working group of game designers, youth playtesters, and teachers. These games are accessed through a spider-like interface that illustrates the myriad connections between curricular objectives and game play.

Game Bucket offers an organic, data-rich discovery space for teachers, students and parents to mine and explore. For example, a teacher interested in introducing the concept of probability into her 6th grade Math class might search the taxonomy for math standards and discover the board game Yahtzee. A geography teacher might use the taxonomy to research a specific game. Because he has heard of the computer game Civilization, he can search by game title and get information on how it might be used in the context of a Social Studies class. In another instance, a student eager to confirm that the video game Portal will help her to better understand physics and patterns, might consult Game Bucket with her mother prior to purchasing the game.

Game Bucket is a collaborative research effort between a stellar team of designers, programmers, design interns and youth volunteers who are passionate about games.
