Case Study Series
Rich-media explorations of games and their uses for learning across a variety of disciplines and contexts
This series of rich-media case studies aims to uncover top design strategies underlying the effective use of games and game-like experiences for learning and engagement. The series delves into a wide variety of approaches, applications and contexts, looking into the worlds of education, commercial game development and business, in school, out of school and online.
Currently under development is a case study exploring how two master teachers in Texas reinvented learning for their students by developing—over six years—a comprehensive in-class all-year civilization game. Also in development is a case study exploring design approaches to a popular UK-based online math platform, and the redesign of the Portal 2 SDK for use by youth.
Case studies will span a variety of media. Look for previews released periodically via the Institute’s source for online news: AWSM.
