Short Circuit
An after-school program where kids tinker at the intersection of design, technology and art
Short Circuit is an informal hands-on laboratory for participants to explore and discover innovative uses for physical and digital materials, like circuits, conductive inks, LEDs, the latest programming languages, paper, pipe cleaners, iPads, video, audio and websites.
The program is designed to support the development of creativity, innovation, systems thinking and DIY digital media skills by engaging participants in informal projects under the guidance of mentors, artists and designers from leading New York City institutions, like Parsons the New School for Design and Eyebeam Studios. The program also supports current science, technology, engineering and math objectives (STEM).
Short Circuit meets four times a week for two and a half hours per session. Currently it is being piloted in New York City at Quest to Learn and as part of the Digital Youth Network and YouMedia programs in Chicago.
